Nice route, but not fast. Slalom around puddles, pedestrians and pooches on the towpath. Lots of junctions, traffic lights and confusing cycle lanes in Leeds. Some gravel / dirt sections but doable with a road bike. Interesting scenery though, and something different than the usual country lanes. Might do it again, but probably not in a weekend.

... were both on fire today! The best rides are when you go somewhere you haven't been before. This ride took me over the infamous Park Rash climb into Coverdale and back via the open moorlands of Trapping Hill. Park Rash is a beast of a climb, so I was quite happy to be able to pedal all the way to the top, albeit rather slowly. The descent from Trapping Hill towards Lofthouse is also quite exciting. I didn't find this an easy ride, but there are some spectacular views along the way.I've lived in Harrogate for almost two years now and there is still a lot more to explore. The Yorkshire Dales and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty have some amazing scenery and a lot of opportunities for cycling. Not many flat roads though, so make sure your legs and brakes are in good working order ;-)
