When I did this tour I wanted to avoid the downhill on the hiking tour at the highest point about 1km uphill after Rougon. It is a big disapointment!
Please do not try this downhill.
I am an experienced downhill rider and it was no fun!

The uphill beginning was on asphalt until the little village Chasteuil. The gravel road uphill got rougher and steeper. The last 10-15 minutes of the uphill you have to push the bike. Only e-bikes with very skilled rides can ride uphill. Downhill to Rougon is on a gravel Road. Not easy for total beginners

This tour was defintely better than the other way (anti-clockwise).
You climb up about 80% on asphalt. Rest is on gravel. Pushing bike is only about 5-10 minutes because of loose gravel. Phantastic downhill 95% on gravelroad with rocks and stones.
