Five ferries today, and they all worked! A record! The first one was on the site where a Roman bridge once stood.
We enjoyed Gennet, not least as it was where we had a superb coffee and an apple turnover.

Another day of ferries! And another day where we were forced to make a detour, as the first ferry was only going to start service at 10.30 and we were there two hours early! As a result, we saw things we might otherwise not have: stopped for coffee at a converted old military stronghold, originally built

Today is a tale of four ferries, only three of which worked for us... The first one was not operating, forcing us to take a deviation through a rather charming town, Dordrecht. Most of the cycling was along polders, next to dykes, with some stunning nature reserves.

We were misled; when we woke, skies were clear and we were expecting another scorcher. Our expectations were dashed the moment we hit the coastal path and found ourselves facing and battling a strong south- westerly., much stronger than forecast. Although we didn’t get far, we feel as though we cycled uphill all day.
