The Birkenfelder Tongrube is a recreational area on the edge of Birkenfeld / Nahe (small district town and seat of the National Park Hunsrück-Hochwald).
The soil is very clayey, formerly clay was mined for the Birkenfelder brick factory, which was in operation until the seventies. In the former clay pit has formed a natural lake ... a very idyllic place with a lot of flora and fauna around it. There are other waters, z. For example, the former pumping pool, a U-shaped pond, where you can skate well in cold winters, if you dare ;-)The two fish ponds (Badeweiher and Sielbachweiher) are run by the Angelsportverein Fischwaid, which also maintains a nice little clubhouse with entertainment. Beautiful place with outdoor seating and large barbecue for exuberant parties in the countryside - far and wide nobody bothers. All in all a nice walk-round after work.
