Starting from Greenfield train station, heading up to Uppermill then Diggle. Stopped at infamous ice cream parlour along the canal. Then went uphill (across quite muddy and water-logged fields) to reach Pots and Pans. Then took minor roads back to Greenfield villge. The Royal George is a decent pub to finish off at, there is also a cafe opposite the station but it closes early.....

We got the train to Marsden where this hike started. It was a really nice day, following the Pennine Way for most of it which was pretty easy going. The walking got more rugged after leaving that trail to reach the highlights towards the end. Great day, train back from Hadfield (every half hour), the Palatine pub a worthy stopping off point.

The starting point is close to Stretford Metrolink stop, also Firswood and Chorlton. There is a car park at Longford Park, and also across the road at Turn Moss; both are free. There are toilets at Coffee and Co cafe (during cafe opening hours, usually until 4pm). You will pass the Jackson's Boat pub for refreshment which has a large outdoor garden, and Chorlton Water Park is well worth a diversion too. The path takes you across the golf course so beware of flying balls, but the path follows the tree line so is somewhat protected. Fletcher Moss also has a beautiful Botanical Garden which is near the Visitor's centre and isn't well signposted. The end of the walk is along the very busy Didsbury high street, but it is convenient for the tram (back to Chorlton means you don't have to change lines).

Evening brisk walk (who needs boot camp!) It took us 2.5 hours. We left from Prestwich tram stop and accessed the path at the back of the Shell garage. It's then straight on past Philip's park. Head for the Pilkington Factory then follow the river, turn right to reach Clifton Country Park. An easy (and worthwhile) extension is to Ringley Village (Horseshoe pub a good pit stop).....we didn't have time for that....next time hopefully :-)
