Hike Sfakia - Loutro Sfakia
Sfakia to Glyka Nera beach starts with 2 km on asphalt and then it becomes a little difficult. Before you reach the dirt road of the path there is a pretty pleasant beach, Ilingas, which is a two-minute walk from the asphalt, and which has facilities For parts of the hike on the dirt path, I had to focus on the path to avoid looking at the cliffs. Glyka Nera beach was beautiful in every sense, with warm clear, calm water, inviting you to swim for ages. It's good for snorkeling as well. The Sfakia end of the beach is nudist, while the Loutro side has umbrellas, a restaurant for drinks, snacks, food, and there are toilets as well. The hike to Loutro is easier, more well defined and safer. There were a couple of deserted beaches on the way, which were not too bad but why go there when there is better? On the way back, from Loutro to Sfakia, I had trouble a couple of times to follow the path. It seams that when you climb down from Sfakia, it is easy to see the path, but it is more challenging to spot it on the climb from Glyka Nera towards Sfakia. Overall, very rewarding hike, beautiful scenery, requires shoes, trainers as a minimum (they will become dirty), best to wear hiking shoes. Some fitness is required but you don't need to be a pro. If you are scared of cliffs, it's best to do the Loutro - Glyka Nera hike and back.
