Sumburgh Head and Jarlshof Circuit

Just 13 degrees, 30mph winds and occassional squalls made for a bracing walk. A couple of tough climbs and another glorious beach. Too late in the year to see Puffins.

Stone Wall and Coastal View loop from Scalloway

My first real walk on the Shetland Islands. Mixed weather - cold and windy with mizzle at the start but ended in sunshine - mixed tracks and paths - big hill towards the end - wonderful coastal views.

The Forsinain Trail explores the landscapes that make the Flow Country so special, taking you through farmland, open hill ground, and former plantation. The farmland is an important feeding ground for birds like golden plover, dunlin and curlew. The trail also takes you past an area of dubh-lochain and

I visited Stroma via a boat across the Pentland Firth. Stroma lies two miles off the north coast of Caithness. The island measures a mile long and half a mile wide. In 1901 the population of the island peaked at a healthy 375, although this figure subsequently dwindled. In 1962, Mr and Mrs Andrew Manson

A glorious winters day for this walk. A very gentle breeze. I took the B874 out of Halkirk, through the village and out to the level crossing, passing the WW2 Hoy Military Fuel storage tanks which were built to provide aircraft fuel for Castletown, Wick and Skitten airfields. The views from here are

My first visit to Loch Calder for 2025. It was a mild 12 degrees as I left to walk to the loch. A very strong head wind slowed my progrsss as I walked out from the village. Ben Dorrery was clearly visible but the distant Morven and Maiden Pap hills were hidden in the distant mist. Loch Calder is the

This walk took me out to the edge of the village to the rail bridge that crosses the river Thurso. The bridge carries the rail track for the Thurso Inverness train. It was a grey day but further south the sun was shining has it shone on the distant hills of Morven and Maiden Pap. From the bridge I returned

It was a quiet morning, no wind but a hint of rain in the air as I walked from home to catch the bus to Thurso. Once in Thurso I followed the coastal path to Scrabster harbour and on to Scrabster lighthouse. Climbing up to the coastal pat that would take me to the most northern part of the Holborn Head
