A glorious winters day for this walk. A very gentle breeze. I took the B874 out of Halkirk, through the village and out to the level crossing, passing the WW2 Hoy Military Fuel storage tanks which were built to provide aircraft fuel for Castletown, Wick and Skitten airfields. My first visit to Loch Calder for 2025. It was a mild 12 degrees as I left to walk to the loch. A very strong head wind slowed my progrsss as I walked out from the village. This walk took me out to the edge of the village to the rail bridge that crosses the river Thurso. The bridge carries the rail track for the Thurso Inverness train. It was a grey day but further south the sun was shining has it shone on the distant hills of Morven and Maiden Pap. From the bridge I returned
