Actually we only wanted to go to the Grünhütte. But the weather was right and we felt like more. The highlight for us was the Geierlay course.

You should not miss out on this panoramic tour with the only via ferrata in the Northern Black Forest. By train you can reach Ottenhöfen, the starting point of this day tour. The majority of the way is signposted as "Genießerpfad Karlsruher Grat".From Ottenhöfen it is always easy uphill, past the beautiful noble grave grave waterfalls. They take their name from a dark legend that once a cruel mistress was immured in a water-washed cave and died there. Today the waterfalls offer a beautiful natural spectacle on the ascent to the Karlsruher ridge.A bit further, the first panoramic view towards the ridge and down to the Gottschlägenal valley opens up at Herrenschrofen.Arriving at the Karlsruher ridge, sure-footedness and a head for heights are needed. Unlike alpine via ferrata, this exposed game is not secured by wire ropes or the like and should therefore only be practiced in dry conditions. Climbing the ridge along the "climb" signage is well worth the while - the view from up here is fantastic. The descent leads past the hiking center Achern again to a great viewing platform at Brennte Schrofen. For the last time, the Black Forest and the Achern Valley stretch at your feet before you climb the 500+ meters down to Ottenhöfen.Attention: Dry weather, sure-footedness and a head for heights are required for this tour. The ridge is not secured by wire ropes or climbing aids.
