If you want to do a two day trip I have a better suggestion for you: Go up the path as I attempted but go up all the way and sleep in a cabine after the Okuhotaka summit (you need a reservation !!). Next day you go back to Kamikochi over the long path (east) that goes through the same valley as the river

The day before I walked from Ichinokishi hut to Goshikigahara hut (deleted the gps unintentionally).
Despite the short length and little altitude difference, the trail (both directions) is, I’m my opinion, surprisingly demanding. Hence I was relieved that I could stay at Goshikigahara on a short notice
