18 miles into Santa Fe. Might move on late this afternoon or take a rest and leave wicked early in the morning. Trying to avoid temps near 100‼️ and smoke from Arizona wildfires.

Rest day... sort of. Ended up doing 33 miles from Goat Hill Campground to Taos. The start of my ride existed of a broken cleat bolt, a trail side repair (that’s why you carry spares), and then a dead end with 2 miles of backtracking. Managed to find another way back on the route. Three decent climbs

75 miles! Half gravel, half highway. Left at 6am and was greeted by beautiful sunshine. Headwind most of the way, but tolerable. Very little fanfare when I crossed into NM... almost missed the teeny sign. Once in Questa (it’s the besta), I had to wait for a storm to pass before heading up to Goat Hill

The pass climb was long and challenging with periods of new sandy gravel and a pretty relentless climb out

Day 1 was a big success. Blue skies most of the way and pretty mellow wind. County road to Palmer Lake was very scenic but hard to enjoy scenery with traffic. Good news is that a regional trail starts in Palmer Lake and goes all the way through CO Springs. The trail goes through some forest areas and
