Zippy

Riding a Specialized Creo 2 gravel light assist e-bike. Komoot for route planning, linked to Wahoo Roam 3 , Tickr heart monitor, cadence sensor on my right shoe and speed sensor on front wheel. Using Garmin RCT715 rear radar and camera.
Upgraded from Wahoo Bolt V2 since my aging eyes had difficulty reading small text font on Bolt. However, still having difficulty with larger screen on Roam 3, particularly navigation directions small white text on pale blue background.
Changed to tubeless in Jan 2025 after many punctures. My rides are mainly 50/50 gravel/road and country lanes with Hawthorn hedges. Farmers and local councils cut back hedges in autumn and spring with larger shredders that scatter Hawthorn stalks with thorns. Even tubeless (Muc off) eventually fails, rear tyre had 9 thorns, needed reinflating on a ride. So, had to patch tyre from inside with mushrooms and standard inner tube patches renewed sealant.

Ride to Netherthorpe for plane spotting at Sheffield Aero Club, great cafe there for lunch. Came back down Chesterfield Canal, Turnerwood is a real beaty spot on the canal.

The Swamp Thing

I followed the converged Rivers Meden and Maun between Bothamsall and Walesby, a route I took in summer of 2025. An interesting route that passes by Robin Hoods Cave and memorable for the swamp created from overflow of the rivers in rainy winter season. I remembered the causeway across the…

Southwell Minster (Cathedral)

Nice ride out and back via Sherwood Pines and Southwell trail. Walked around the Catheral grounds. Planned to stop at Woodberry Cafe in Farnsfield, found out it closed November 2025. Found a Farnsfield butchers shop, pavement table and excellent chilli jam sausage roll with a coffee!

Chesterfield Canal (Staveley) - progress

First ride this year to check progress on the new lock at Staveley. Also, the new Hub building at Staveley Basin, finished last summer - no progress, all the shutters down. Apparently, no tenants for a coffee shop at this multi-million GBP White Elephant. Returned via Poolsbrook Park and Clowne…

Pleasley Vale (Little Matlock), then by Pleasley Colliery Visitors Centre onto Teversal trail but turn off onto Rowthorne Trail then into grounds of Hardwick. Teversal

Ride to the small village of Teversal. This is the location of ficticious Wragby Hall and 'Tevershall' in D H Lawrence's Lady Chatterly's Lover. Wragby Hall was probably Teversal Manor. Lawrence lived in Eastwood, Notts.

Muddy and deep puddles, wet feet!

Wahoo having a laugh

Inredibly fast ride 🤪. Not really, Speed displayed on Roam 3 froze at 16.0 mph during ride. Roam 3 logged many more miles distance that even that speed would suggest. Strange because GNSS mapping and other functions remained accurate.
Even stranger, speed is accurate in the speed graph below.

Thaymar for a decent sausage cob
