About Zippy
Upgraded from Wahoo Bolt V2 since my aging eyes had difficulty reading small text font on Bolt. However, still having difficulty with larger screen on Roam 3, particularly navigation directions small white text on pale blue background.
Changed to tubeless in Jan 2025 after many punctures. My rides are mainly 50/50 gravel/road and country lanes with Hawthorn hedges. Farmers and local councils cut back hedges in autumn and spring with larger shredders that scatter Hawthorn stalks with thorns. Even tubeless (Muc off) eventually fails, rear tyre had 9 thorns, needed reinflating on a ride. So, had to patch tyre from inside with mushrooms and standard inner tube patches renewed sealant.

Muddy and deep puddles, wet feet! Followed a route from Clumber to Thoresby Hall, first time explore. Puddles across track that's obviosly used by tractors. Verges both sides covered in brambles, so no choice other than ride through. Near to verge should be shallow - WRONG. Over 1ft deep and sinking mud, stalled mid puddle. Dry wearher route in future!

Inredibly fast ride 🤪. Not really, Speed displayed on Roam 3 froze at 16.0 mph during ride. Roam 3 logged many more miles distance that even that speed would suggest. Strange because GNSS mapping and other functions remained accurate. Even stranger, speed is accurate in the speed graph below.

Great ride trying to avoid mud but some big puddles on gravel tracks south of Clumber. Thaymar Ice Cream cafe very busy for time of year. Return route changed to road avouding mud, passing by Thorseby Hall (Warner Hotel) then through Sherwood Forest.

Variation on a frequent ride into Derbyshire. Instead of passing through and by Hardwick Hall, this time via Ault Hucknall and Stainsby Mill. Return using 5 Pits Trail and busy Teversal Visitor centre for lunch.

Via Bolsover Castle for coffee and early lunch. Then great ride on Castle Hill main road 11% downhill. Easy ride then past site of Old Markham colliry, past Duckmanton, Poolsbrook and to join Clowne Greenway which is an old railway line. A long steady climb 1.5% uphill. Another coffee stop in Creswell.

Via Poolsbrook Country Park, slight detour to Staveley Basin to explore the new building. New building at canal boat basin should have been completed April 25 but work was still ongoing in July. By now I expected a coffee stop but nothing there, all shutters down! This time along TransPennine trail into Rother Valley Country Park, leaving by the lake towards Norwood. Explored the route by Norwood Fishing Lakes towards M1 farmers underpass. Komoot warned about a few steps but 100m before underpass very muddy and steep incline (one step but many tree roots), ok for MTB but had to push gravel bike. Across field to Harthill, not muddy. Return via Chesterfield Canal.
