I probably do this hike about 4 times a week. It's very doable for a 65 year old guy and a great worlout! The first mile is steep and rocky, but then flattens out.

This is the full Big Red Loop, hiked in the clockwise direction, entering the red loop just before the dam. The first mile is quite steep and rocky, but after that it levels out for a while. Toward the end, the route leaves the Big Red Loop and finishes on the Copperhead Trail for the final leg, which adds one more hill. It’s a tiring but very doable hike. I’m 65 and can complete it without any problem, though I definitely know I’ve had a good workout by the time I’m done!

This is a modification on an earlier hike that I recorded. This end with part of the green loop. This is a great hike 5.26 miles with 830ft of climb which is good exercise. The going is fairly easy but the trail can be a little rocky in places. You start on the red trail at the edge of the dam and head uphill for about a mile. The trail then levels off. You end on the other side of the dam.

This is a mixture of the Big Red loop and the Blue Fire trail going clockwise starting at the visitors center. It’s 1000ft elevation gain and the trails are a little rocky but solid. I really like this route, I’m 65 and it’s perfect to get me in shape, burn some calories and enjoy nature.
