My first ride after the Big Bend trip, and first ride in a while without carrying full bikepacking bags. I almost forgot what my bike looks like naked.

Big Bend National Park: Dugout Wells Trail

Nice, short hike where one can learn a little about the desert vegetation and see some nice mountain views.

Big Bend National Park: River Rd and Glenn Springs

Rode from Rio Grande Village southwest on River Road East, then north on Glenn Springs Road to my campsite at K-Bar 1. In the heat and dryness, I found I couldn't eat my Clif Bars, Skratch bars, or tortillas leaving me dependent on gels for energy. I eventually bonked about half-way. Glenn Springs was freshly regraded, leaving 4-6" of soft, loose gravel. Nearly impossible to ride much of it, especially uphill. Tires just sunk in like it was sand. So, there was a lot of hike-a-bike. I eventually made it to the pavement on Rio Grande Village Dr. A few miles from camp, while fiddling with my water supply, a guy stopped to check on me. He offered to drive me the rest of the way and give me some water to get through the night. Given it was dark and I was tired and hungry, I took him up on it. It was a rough day, but overall a great adventure. A lot of lessons learned about what food NOT to depend on in the desert.

Did a loop out east of Pflugerville, then a lap around the lake. Never miss an opportunity to stop and look at water.
