Loop through the heart of Hvar by MTB, linking quiet villages

A compact MTB loop through the centre of Hvar, connecting small inland villages and lesser-used tracks. Several sections are MTB only and not recommended for gravel bikes, including the links Vrboska–Plodine and Dol–Svirče. The Dol–Svirče stretch is a highlight, remote and scenic, with a few short pushes in places. Best ridden in late autumn when the island slows down, tourists are gone, field work is over, and vineyards and trees turn golden.

Gravel loop to the wild northwest of Hvar, Kabal peninsula and Stari Grad Plain

A scenic gravel loop stretching northwest from Stari Grad onto the Kabal peninsula, a quiet and largely undiscovered finger of land with a raw, open feel. The main gravel road runs along the spine of the peninsula with access to beaches on both sides. Worth exploring, but remember that every descent to the sea comes with a climb back up to the ridge 😜 The route also passes close to Rudina, a tiny and picturesque village that is easy to visit as a short detour. Riding through the UNESCO protected Stari Grad Plain is a highlight. The minimal vertical brown wayfinding signs are exceptionally well designed. Subtle, functional, and almost invisible among vineyards, a rare example of signaletics that respect the landscape instead of polluting it visually. Exceptionally good in mid November, with intense autumn colours across the fields, clear light, and almost no people around.
