Otterspool prom is delightful with its views across the Mersey estuary to the Wirral and the distant Welsh hills. In addition the prom is backed by parkland and woodland. Deviations from the route are obvious from the map but the route starts and ends at railway stations. Nearly the whole route is off road but mostly paved. For wheelchair users the hillock just after the Red Bull is impassable; for them leave the prom, pass the Red Bull and go up Riversdale road. Take the first road to the left and after approximately 100 M take a path onto the meadows and rejoin the route before the woodland. I have manoeuvred a wheelchair through the Otterspool woods but the section up to the railway bridge is not for the faint hearted; rough, unpaved with numerous tree roots. There is a short downhill which is moderately steep, a strong assistant is advised. The woodland trails part of the Festival gardens are partially accessible and very pleasant. Accept that you will have to turn back at some point on them, however determined.

Wheelchair feasible with strong assistant but path a bit narrow in places(see photo). Beautiful on a calm sunny evening so well worth the effort.
