This hike is not dangerous. That little bit is perfectly safe. I did the whole thing in sneakers. It is exhausting though.

This route goes from the information center at takijiri to Iris Auto Camping Ground. No reservation is required but there are limited camping spots. I'd also recommend arriving by 5pm at the latest to ensure check-in is still open. There is an onsen on-site and the camp ground store sells cup noodles and ice cream.

I recommend taking a bus from Hongu to the campsite because that last bit by the road is not fun. Then in the morning take a bus back to Hongu and continue from there.

This route goes from Otonashi no Sato Camping Ground to Shingushi Oguchi Campsite. The actual campsite and reception are on the island reachable by the bridge before the post office.
