Newark, Fair Hill, Rock Church and Milburn loop
First “big” ride out for the year, and maybe not what I anticipated. I forgot how painful Fair Hill gravel is, and the Big Elk Creek access is arguably worse. And what ride would be complete without an idiot making a right turn on red trying to kill you, be safe out there guys. Still, met a couple cyclists on the way, which is always fun.

New stem and new computer test
I bought a new stem recently, and beyond trialing in on the rollers, I haven’t been able to get out on a ride to give it a fair test. Observations, much better fit than the previous stem. Dropped from the stock Cervelo 90mm stem to an 80mm stem. My arms, neck and hands are noticeably more comfortable, and I can stay in aero tuck for longer before my back begins to yell at me. Happy days. I feel like I’m riding more on the nose of the saddle though, which is likely because I moved the saddle back based on an AI fit, and it was a bad adjustment. I’ll move it back prior to my next ride. As for the computer, I like it, though don’t have any previous experience with one. I liked that it auto paused at stops, wasn’t expecting that. Also liked the calorie count, which I didn’t realize it had. Heart rate monitor was new, but not uncomfortable, and the data access on ride was fun to see. I need to figure out the best display to have it on or how to quickly swap between them, as I kept getting lost looking for either speed or gradient or heart rate or map. It has a lap count that I need to disable if I can. As for the ride, clearly I’m not at my pre winter slumber endurance. Can’t wait to get some more miles back in my legs and go on an adventure.

White Banks Trail
Took a two mile hike on the White Banks Trail in Elk Creek State Park. The trail is well kept but parking isn’t ideal. There is a small on road pull off point we used, but it can only hold 4 cars max, so if it’s a popular spot for the day, good luck. The scenic overlook was worth the 1 mile hike from the car, and the trail can easily be turned into a 5 mile loop. We’ll go back and do it soon when time permits. Check for tics, we found 3 on us!

Turkey Point
The kids loved the 1/4 mile walk to the light house, and easy trail down to the water. Nice views, and 10/10 for easy walking.

New stem day
Needed a new stem since I was too stretched out on the bike. Garrisons is a great shop, put a couple stems on to find a good length for me and made a couple small alterations to the hood position also. Took a short spin around a local walking path to test it out. Fit was good, path was fine, but it was freezing!
