The first part of the trail leads down to the sea along a rock face: quite steep, but very manageable. Approaching hikers warned of a landslide that had buried a short section of the path ahead of us - but which could be passed with appropriate caution. What a fantastic tour! We loved everything about it: the enchanting, jungle-like path through the gorge, the pretty stream, the picturesque waterfalls, the great views along the coast, the amazing stair paths, the wonderful flora. As a bonus, there was a super nice and refreshing swimming stop at Praia

The tour is considered a highlight, and so we targeted it first. We found the path itself disappointing and boring - a wide gravel path on which less hiking-inclined fellow tourists could move motorized up to and on the crater rim. 2 Monster parking lots, and both completely full? Great.
We eventually found a parking spot. But feared traffic jams on the sometimes narrow paths. Fortunately, it wasn't that bad. Even though the path was well populated, we still had a lot of hiking fun.
