A wonderful route along the Ruhr Cycle Path, with an occasional mountain stage through Ratingen-Hösel. The 1.5 km of gravel on the RS1 aren't ideal for racing bikes. Riding through Essen city is 🤢, but unavoidable to get to the south of Essen without having to ride even more gravel (Grugatrasse).
