Beautiful cold sunny morning, valley bottoms covered by fog, forest-covered islands protruding from that sea of fields, scenic colored sedimentation of air layers in front of black forest massif. Brutal rolling gravel terrain direttissimo tracking curvature of terrain. Nice 🙂

Steady climb through muddy hohe Strasse to Scheideckpass, Blissful Road intermezzo to Kandern, and back through the forest again attacking some 15% gradients. Amazing fast descent along Oberes Egisholz towards Wollbach. As the forest opens, that stunning view on Markgräfler Land emerges. It seems like Tuscany. A sea of fields with islands of hills with forests and villages on top. Seems like riding inside a J. M. W. Turner painting

After a few months of winter break today I already reached VT1 just by looking at my freshly maintained bike ... deranging intermezzo in Kandern where I got caught up in the carneval parade and a random dude wanted to try my bike. Luckily his friend explained him that one would need special shoes 😂 ... and luckily the unblocked road was near and I could let the legs do the talking.

First warm afternoon in February was calling for a forest ride up to Scheideck. Muddy and greasy but nothing 2.4" XC tires wouldn't handle. Parts of Binzenweg blocked due to wood logging, ... and mind those tractors everywhere transporting wood. You don't want to behind them (too slow on descents) but also not really in front of them (during climbs its getting a legit race) .... otherwise amazing weather, and crazy fresh smell of dark green needle trees! Spring just came one bit nearer.

Beautiful winter scenery. Frozen stony forest soil that's usually soft becomes hard pack. leafs: like skiing sensation. active insulation required for thermal management (fleece plus puff jacket)

Pretty muddy conditions (soft wet fine sand) creating more grind on these fireroads than one is used to here. Keep in mind sun exposure changes, the Munzenberg north face roads had frost and worked as hard-pack, south roads were rather swampy. Beautiful stunning scenrery regardless.
