The Sunday Cyclist

I am a Canadian who resides in Bermuda. When I am not home, I slow travel the world with typical stays of one month each destination. I have a customized bike with couplers and a Pinion gearbox, making it easier to travel. I will share my favourite city rides (typically 15 to 20 km), Sunday rides (50 km plus), and tours (250 to 350 km) here.

🇲🇾Bangsar to Kepong Botanic Gardens Loop

This route has some surprising highlights from parks, botanical gardens, road side cyclist hangout, and a car show.

🇲🇾Putrajaya - A nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur

Trade Kuala Lumpur traffic for something completely different 🚴‍♂️ Jump on the KLIA Transit from KL Sentral—just 2 stops, about 20 minutes—and suddenly you’re in Putrajaya. Sunday mornings here feel like another country. Wide, empty boulevards, smooth roads, lakes, bridges, and striking architecture instead of the congestion and noise of…

🇲🇾Bangsar to National Botanic Gardens Shah Alam Loop

While not the prettiest ride to the National Botanical Garden, it was safe. Highway 2 is lined with a two-lane motorbike road on each side of the highway with underpasses at each of the overpasses. The botanical garden was just the opposite - quiet and beautiful. You could easily spend…

🇮🇩Bali Tour (Day 2) - Sideman to Amed

After a long opening climb to 550 m, the reward is a sweeping downhill all the way to Amed. At that elevation, the air feels noticeably cooler—a welcome break from the heat and humidity of the coast.

Amed reveals its identity quickly: this is a town built around diving. You’ll…

🇮🇩Bali Tour (Day 1) - Sanur to Sideman

If you are looking for Bali’s iconic rice paddies, this ride is for you. It takes a while to get out of greater Denpasar’s urban sprawl, but when it happens, you are in a new world.

🇮🇩Sanu to Canggu Loop

For my last Sunday ride, I wanted to get over to Canggu to see what all the fuss is about. The digital nomad hub wasn’t as polished as I thought. This ride is a completely urban loop with moderate traffic for a Sunday morning.

🇮🇩Sanur to Uluwatu Loop

A ride to the south peninsula has a completely different look and feel than the rest of South Bali. Rugged cliffs, hills, and resorts dominate the area. This area also has its own surfing community.

🇮🇩Sanur to Ubud Loop

Today I cycled north to Ubud, 🚴🏻‍♂️ where I will be spending four days next month. 💆🏻 It felt like a bit of reconnaissance for my upcoming stay.

Because Bali’s volcanoes rise on the northern side of the island, the road to Ubud gradually climbs about 250 meters. Fortunately, the…
