The standard route is hard if you only have one vehicle, as we had. Taking local advice we started at the cable bay end and “just” did the walk up to sentinel peak and back, taking about an hour and a half. The views are spectacular but it really is a tough climb! There is some parking at the cable bay end - the road there is tarmac but rather narrow.
