Laguna Cochacarango from El Carmen in Loja
Step incline through rolling grasslands and pine forest into the Podocarpus National Park up to a peak with a short decent to the lake. Great cloudy day hike😎

Santorum bridge (Nori and Richard's) to Malacatos
In years past we've taken a higher trail, but since that has washed out we forged a new path along the river which cuts through some private property.
We caught a taxi for the last 1.5 miles of this route.

Cerro Colambo to Purunuma... The hard way🤪
We took a trail that was alleged to connect with the primary route, but that was not true... We bushwhacked for 2 solid hours before rediscovering the trail... Holy 🐄 what a day... Perfect weather too 😎🤗

Malacatos-Santana Ecoturismo Hostel y Risturante
Walked along the bario road to the Hostel. Short hikes that overlook hacienda San Joaquin valley while you wait for you meal to be cooked. 5 Talapia ponds serve as protein options. Trails are overgrown in 2026, so a machette may be a good choice

Gorgeous views... Bring a machete... Mostly uphill... Grassy meadows are your rewards at the destination.

Botanical gardens/Parque Universitario
Although the Vilca bus stopped here in the past, it currently does not. You can catch the return bus near the round about across the river and next to the University.

If it's about 1 1/2 miles between San Pedro and Vilca it would be a 5 mile hike or 4 1/2 if 2 miles between. Thanks for saving it!
