Final stage of our round trip. The initial plan was to make an additional stop at Figueira da Foz, but we decided to cut a direct diagonal to Coimbra to have a bike-free day during the week. The downside of this option is that there is no obvious bicycle-friendly itinerary between Mira and Coimbra, so

A relaxed ride along the Aveiro lagoon to reach our next stop at Mira beach on the Atlantic. Short, super flat, not too windy and with a veil of clouds to protect us from the sun that broke out just before we got to our destination. Perfect timing.

We left the Sever do Vouga heights to get back on the Ecopista close to the Praia Fluvial where we had a swim the day before. The cycle path still had a bit more than 10km to offer before disappearing at what looked like a recently abandoned train station near Albergaria-a-Velha. From there the landscape

I love this trip so much. This region of Portugal is beautiful, people are friendly, this ecopista network is amazing. I’ll keep it short today because I have too much to say. We won an epic fight against a steep hill before the finish line (220m elevation gain in 3.5km 😤) It felt good to step down

We got out of Viseu through its northern side to reach the Ecopista do Vouga, heading toward Bodiosa. After a few kilometers, it’s all downhill to Sao Pedro do Sul as the Viseu plateau gives way to the Vouga River valley. The ride was an absolute treat on a sand and gravel path. It almost felt more like

We started early-ish for cooler temperatures and enjoyed another pleasant ride along the Dao ecopista. The slope was almost imperceptible but it kept us pushing on the bikes to counter the breeze that came and went as we were riding north-eastward to Viseu. The cycle path is super well maintained and

Hot again 🥵 we paced ourselves and made a lot of stops to drink and rest under the shade where we could. We drank a lot of water 💦 , I mean: A LOT! We stopped halfway at the Marmitas de Gigante along the Dao river to cool down. The cycle path (ecopista) was protective for the final 15km, with lots
