Save this smaller section as I knew I would have to go up Battery Hill at the very end of my route. Gets up to 14 to 17% in some stretches and goes on for 1.5 miles. Really tough on my overly loaded heavy bike. Lovely day for a ride and enjoyed some off road section, over a small railway line and through some woods. Arrived to Dungeness, very weird and wonderful place and the route takes you along the fence line outside the nuclear power station, then onto a long straight road which reminded me of Hotel California Album cover. Met a good guy called Matt who was doing the route in under 48 hours! Road with him until Rye through the lovely gravel roads around Dungeness and Lydd. Great seafront section at Camber and then onto a good cycle path along the side of the road. Said goodbye to Matt in Rye as that's where the rout normally takes you back up to Ashford. Stopped for lunch at Winchelsea Beach cafe to gain strength for the final climb. Amazed I didn't get off to push at all. Lovely decent back home and jumped into a well needed cold shower.. Great route, will do again sometime.

This was the hardest day for me. Dover and Folkestone have some good hills to climb. Stopped in Dover for lunch before a 3 mile uphill stint. Beautiful route through the country side and eventually some great decents from Folkestone. Lots of off road, over some MOD land and then over a golf course. Mind the balls!! Got to Hythe where there was a brutal head wind. Stopped for coffee, cake and refreshing pineapple juice before continuing. Met lovely Heidi, another cyclist on a racing bike, and road together for 15 minutes keeping up my pace in the head wind chatting about the trip giving me a few local tips. Got to Dymchurch and headed off down some lanes to Newchurch to nice campsite called Norwood Farm. Great facilities. Exhausted...but satisfied after a shower.

Took a leisurely ride along the coast and stopped in Herne Bay for a coffee and then Minnis Bay for a small bite. Stopped again in Broadstairs in old tea room for a tastey brie sandwich. Met friendly people interested in cycling tours. Bit of a sulphury stench around Thanet for a few miles from accumulating dead, rotting seaweed. Lovely coast line and went 4 miles inland from Sandwich to stay at a friendly campsite, Turners Folly, near a small village called Ash.

Nice route through country lanes to Ashford and then a good cycle route through Ashford. Up a hill to the downs and lots of off road to Chilham over the downs. Then made it to lovely campsite in Tyler Hill, Fleets Paddock. Small and friendly campsite with good price for bike-packers.
