My Son Sanctuary
My Son Sanctuary is a remarkable cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples located in the Duy Xuyen District of Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam. Dating from the 4th to the 13th centuries, the sanctuary was the religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom for much of its existence. The site is set within a lush valley surrounded by mountains, symbolically representing Mount Meru, the mythical sacred mountain at the center of the Hindu universe. The temples were constructed primarily of red bricks with stone pillars, intricately decorated with sandstone bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, showcasing advanced Cham engineering skills and religious artistry.
