Nice crater. A hike around the crater is not really worthwhile, apart from the physical exercise, as the crater doesn't look much different from different angles. ^^'

I walked around Jägala Joa end of July. I had quite a problem with horse flies! There were a lot of them and really persistent (not at the waterfall but along the forest road). There were many cars, roads and bike roads. I can not recommend my route for a hike, maybe with a bike.

I did this hike in July 2025 and it was hotter for me than I thought. Bring sunscreen! Happily I had no problems with mosquitos. Met 3 maybe. Because south of Viru raba across the highway in the woods I had way more which was really annoying. :c Of couse there where lots of people because it's quite the tourist spot with the watch tower and the big parking area. I think 2/3 only go as far as the tower and then back. There're public transportations (busses). Just check in advance when the last bus drives back to Tallinn ;) Good walk for families :)

There is probably a reason why they changed the official hiking trail. The old path can apparently get flooded. I have turned back :(

Sooo much snow from Knorrhut to Sonnalpin. Around 1 meter deep. Fell maybe *only* 10-15 times through x,D
Quite exhausting. We were fortunate that three hikers were before us, tested and made "a kind of trail" on the snow for us.
The sun was melting the snow slowly. I can imagine that the trail gets worse
