Leaving Saigon is an experience you can’t really describe - you have to feel it. The first kilometers between scooters look like pure chaos… but after a moment, you start to see that everything works. You feel like you’re inside Vietnam’s bloodstream. Nothing stops. Everything is moving. Everyone has their place and their purpose. If someone joins from a side street, they don’t stop or wait. They just go. And the flow - one moving body - makes space for them. The horn is not aggression. It’s information: I’m here, I’m turning, I’m slowing down, I’m joining. Even riding against traffic on a three-lane road makes sense here. It works in a surprising harmony. Being inside it is incredibly cleansing. There’s no space for thinking about the past or worrying about what’s next. You have to be here and now. In this second. In this movement. After a few dozen kilometers, everything starts to slow down. There are fewer scooters. Silence appears. The first coconut plantations. Farmers. Life built around coconuts - from trees, to processing, to everyday routines. And then the bridge over the Mekong appears. A few kilometers of concrete hanging above the river. Massive. Impressive. It shows the scale of the power you will cross many more times. This is the first welcome to the Mekong Delta. The moment you know you’re starting something bigger than just a cycling route.
