About VeloMeanders
On my sixth birthday my parents gave me a little red Hercules bike. I felt the rush of wind and adrenaline with a sense of freedom. These have stayed with me since. Bicycles have also been my favourite mode of getting around.
In my forties, I got into our local bicycle club's time trials, cyclocross, and gravel races -- with obstinacy as my only talent.
In my sixties, I have became interested in long distance touring/bike-packing. That interest is still going strong.

I have journaled some of my previous tours (on that venerable, pioneering, and ad-free platform, CrazyGuyOnABike):

We had a relaxed morning and a fairly easy day of riding. No gravel today. A lot of quiet, minor roads by vineyards. The ride through Béziers was challenging with narrow roads and steep hills. Then a lovely ride to Pouzolles to arrive at our friends’ place where we’re staying for a while.

Our longest day of riding on this tour. There was not much climbing but the terrain was varied and interesting.

We rode a lot on EuroVelo 8. However we discovered that EV8 seems to disappear around Chemin de Las Pichonos, and a section of it made me think of riding in New Mexico: arid and we would

Adios España. Bonjour France!

Most of the riding was on gravel, paths, and farm roads. The gravel was mostly smooth but there were a few loose and rough bits— nothing that our 35 mm Schwalbe Marathon Mondial touring tires could not handle with relative ease.

A lot of the route was EuroVelo 8 and Pirinexus

After a rest day of walking the Old City in Girona, it was time to get back on the bike for the 4th cycling day of the tour. We had a very filling buffet breakfast at our hotel and were on the road by 9 am. Today there were no hills to speak of. Just a gradual descent from Girona to Costa Brava. We

We walked around Tossa de Mar for a simple breakfast of cafe con letche and croissants. Then we got packed and on our bikes for our ride to Girona.

Today’s ride had the big climb at the beginning rather than end of the day with a few 10% segments. We rode the Gl681 to Llagostera. It was a pretty climb

After a few days of enjoying walking the beaches and Ramblas of Barcelona (easily accessible by train) and Badalona, easily accessible on foot or by bus, and eating delicious tapas and paellas, it was time to get back to the cycling part of our Mediterranean tour.

We had a quick breakfast at our B&B

Leaving home, our bike boxes and us fitted into the Toyota Sienna Blue Line taxi with ease. We had a lot of time at the airports which we filled by playing Qwirkle and reading. The Ottawa-Montreal-Barcelona flights were on-time. There was about a 30 minute queue going through the passport queue, the
