Fern went for a bike ride.

Quick tip: 20 km with 570 m climbing, short 10–12% sections, loose gravel. With kids on bikes without suspension: high effort and planned breaks needed. The second half is smoother and rewarding. Gravel, climbs, and a big win for my 8-year-old. 19.9 km with 570 m of climbing, most of it in the first 6.6 km (average gradient 7–8%, short ramps at 10–12%). Loose gravel made traction tricky, especially for my son’s Cube 20" bike without suspension. I rode a loaded gravel bike with the weight poorly distributed to the rear, which made pushing uphill even harder. The first half tested our legs (and patience) with several push-bike moments. The biggest challenge wasn’t just the gradient — it was keeping my son motivated and balancing rest breaks to arrive before 18:00. For experienced mountain riders with good load distribution, this could feel medium–high difficulty. With kids, it’s high to very high. Very little traffic (we only saw one e-bike). The reward came in the second half: smoother riding, big smiles, and a kid who rolled into camp full of energy, pitched the tent, and still had time to play after dinner.
