This trail doesn’t require neither a permit nor a guide. This trail doesn’t lead to the legendary Doi Luang Chiang Dao summit. It’s just a trail through the national park. It’s perfect for those who want to experience the park but don’t have the permit to climb the summit. The trail offers great variety of landscapes/views: farmland mixed with pine forest, bamboo grooves and high mountains. There is plenty of cafes and restaurants at the beginning of the trail. You can easily find parking there. The trail ends at a small monastery, but we didn’t get to the very end because of two aggressive dogs. If you want to get to the monastery, just keep following the small path. Just before you reach the village at the end of the trail you can take a path to the left and walk towards a nearby waterfall. This will take you about 30 minutes one way. Both the path and the waterfall are mapped on Mapy.com.

This was an extended version of the Buddha’s Footprint Trail. I was a bit nervous that the ridge won’t be passable but in the end it worked and it took us across to the other side of the valley to the Doi Pui Summit. The ridge was especially difficult and technical. The remainder of the hike was easy, at times moderate. December, i.e. the dry season, offered dry soil and made the trail easier - some sections would be extremely difficult if muddy. The trail wasn’t crowded, we met only a dozen of hikers. Much better alternative to the trails located lower down in the park that seemed to be overcrowded, busy with cars, and mostly paved.

Easy and pleasant hike within an hour’s drive from Chiang Rai. Especially interesting towards the end and in the waterfall area.
