This hike starts from the square aside the Fontes Bar. Take the tarmac passageway to the right of the bar as you are facing it (Caminho das Fontes). Starting off in Porto Moniz we took an ad hoc loop ascending the steep slopes to Santa before proceeding to Colmeiras, Cancelas & Lamaceiros.
I would rate this hike as intermediate in standard but in need of good levels of fitness considering you ascend some 620m to a peak of 640m having started roughly

Nice hike, not the easiest to find a parking space and very tight roads.
I altered the route as we were short on time, generally fairly flat as levada walking although the hike back up to the levada from the road was very steep and required good fitness levels and sure-footedness.

The navigation around the hidden bay is very difficult to spot and quite precarious. Good fitness level and sure footedness is required.
