Amaicha River loop

Starts at Parador Huayra where you pay a 5,000 peso entrance fee (per person) and 2,000 parking fee (per car). Fees contribute to the management of the reserve, which is communally owned by the Indigenous peoples of Amaicha. The building has some explanatory posters (in Spanish), a map of the three trails available, and some ancient ceramic fragments from the archeological site. We were lucky to have met Aya Amaicha, an experienced local guide and manager of the site, who introduced us to Indigenous culture and spirituality. He also took us to the waterfall and showed us medicinal plants on the way. We then went on our own hike, first following an established path, then into the Amaicha river channel, and up bouldering through a dried stream (a bit tough but short). At the top we then rejoined the trail which took us back to the Parador.
