The walk started alongside the Royal Military Canal, which was constructed as defence against a planned invasion by Napolean. After a while we were beside an unused railway embankment. Following this we arrived at Saltwood Castle. Originally built in the 11th century. It is thought to be the merting place of 4 knights who met to plan the assassination of Thomas Becket, who was murdered the following day in Canterbury Cathedral. 29th December 1170. The castle was partially restored in the 19th century. The last owner being Alan Clark. A Conservative MP until his death in 1999. His widow still occupies the castle. Apologies for mess at Brockhill cafe. Saterlite went crazy when we stopped for lunch

Quite a few hills up and down. So if you don't want hills this walk isn't for you.

Started out by following the course of the Nailbourne which only flows occasionally and then part of Elham Valley Railway. Beautiful walk. Spectacular views.
