Congo Nile trail, day 9

Nyamasheke to Shangi. Another motor taxi to start the day. The trail passes through private land and the landowner has withdrawn permission, so we started at the Nyamasheke chapel. Easy day with gorgeous views. Except those poor pigs going to market.

Congo Nile trail, day 8

Kumbya to Nyamasheke, Ishara Beach Motel. Day was short and not too hard. More gorgeous landscapes and brick making was fascinating to see. Motel was quite luxurous compared to a base camp, even had hot water! Was high above the beach though, and not feeling well, so didn't swim at the end of the day.

Congo Nile trail, day 5

Kibuye to L'Esperance, Mugonero. We skipped the road section and took a motor-taxi to the start of the trail. I forgot to turn the GPS on for the first 400 m. In the bend of the NR11 there's a path down into the fields. Cross the Gisayo-stream and you're back on track.

Congo Nile trail, day 3

Musasa homestay to Bumba base camp. Two serious hills, but only short stretches are steep and hard. The base camp in Bumba is amazing. The heated up water so I could have a warm shower and even did my laundry by hand. Highly recommended.

Congo Nile trail, day 2

Cyimbili base camp tot Musasa homestay. Fairly easy day. We planned to stay in Kinunu (3 km off trail and downhill to the lake), but reached the turn off around noon. So we hiked on to Musasa homestay. Good call.

15 km from Rubavu to Cyimbili base camp. The first three km's have been rerouted due to a landslide/slip. Fairly hilly, but beautiful. Gorgeous views of Lake Kivu.
