empty roads, cold climbs and wet flat ... had to cut my planned route short, it was too cold and wet in the mountains and i wanted to spend some time with friends in taormina, but the shorter alternatove route was better than i thought, empty roads and fun switchback downhills ... and in the end a hard climb up to touristy taormina, it's nice here

started early to catch some sun, first rainy day here, it came around 11 and made this trip quite an extreme experience ... no problems on the long climb (first dirty city areas with garbage, dogs and cars, then beautiful lava landscape), got wet, but stayed warm ... but the downhill was dirty, cold and painfull (numb feet and fingers), also a bit dangerous in the thick fog, luckily my fingers managed to do the work until i reached warmer and drier areas ... happy i made it, but it was an exhausting and extreme experience

landfills and a lot if garbage next to the road, lots of sunshine and nice views of etna, got stuck in an orange yard and ate a few, siracusa with friends ... coffee, arancini and canelloni ... took the train home :)

mostly forest, no villages, no cyclists, very few cars, many ruins - what an empty area ... very sunny and warm in the morning (got hot on the beautiful 600 m climb back onto the ridge), cloudier and fresher on top and very windy on the 25 km downhill to the straight of messina, taking a ferry to sicily now, smoking etna is waiting for me

very quiet roads in the calabrian mountains, forests and a few nice villages, the further i got south the less people i saw, the colder it got (cold wind brought clouds) ... roads in bad shape, nice views and a great downhill at the end to cittanova, where i will sleep tonight
