    E-san / 恵山

The magnificent Esan. It was on my bucket list for a while, and I finally had the chance to hike it. On a public holiday during a long weekend, I took the chance and hiked the active volcano 🌋 near Hakodate. The road to the more convenient parking place was already closed for winter (although it wasn’t that cold yet and no snow either), so I walked up the road to get to the trailhead. The volcano is very nice, quite active and it’s not that difficult to climb it. The views are also very nice, some onto the ocean, since Esan is conveniently located at a cape. What surprised me was that I was the ONLY human being on that volcano for the whole day, didn’t see another single soul. It was quite nice but als weird since whole Japan is overrun with tourists lately. I guess they haven’t discovered the awesome volcanoes yet 😎. Absolutely stunning mountain, a recommendation for anyone visiting the Hakodate area.

Wow, hiking an active volcano like Esan takes your 'hot' adventures to a whole new level! 🔥 Glad to see the trail didn’t erupt into chaos… except for that parking situation. 😅 But hey, who needs parking when you’ve got stunning views and a bucket list item checked off? Looks amazing! 🌋💪

Hiking around Esan. It’s a magnificent volcano situated In Southern Hokkaido, near the cape with the same name.

You've really climbed so many of Japan's famous mountains!

I also love mountain climbing, but I'm still a beginner.

I'd be happy to exchange information with you if you'd like.

Did a 久しぶり hike in Yamanashi and realized I am totally out of shape 🤣 Fuji-san was a bit shy today. But saw some traces of what appears to might have been bears. I wonder if they roam the 大月 area though. Best part was the ご褒美ほうとう after the hike :)

Rainy day in Kochi, fortunately I had some time for a quick and easy hike within the city limits before heading back to the airport.

Quick hike up Kochi’s Kokuzo-san. I fee like every prefecture has at least one mountain called 虚空蔵山 lol. Its still warm (and humid in the mountains) in Kochi at the end of September.

Had some time to hike Seoul’s Buramsan. The mountain is approximately 500m high and I would say it’s an intermediate hike. The way up the ridgeline is partly supported with stairs and closer to the summit, there are some pretty steep rock passages. All in all, a nice half-day hike with breathtaking views from the top. It’s still very humid and sweaty in September, though.

Quick excursion up to Goten-zan. Nothing special and not really difficult, but I like the fact that there was a(n abandoned) shrine on the summit.

Finally, I was able to make it to Moiwa-yama. Didn’t want to be lazy so instead of driving all the way to the top, I hiked from the Moiwayama Ski Area, which made for a good 2.5h hike. The summit is full of people, who mostly take the ropeway. 😅 Also, the views are good. You can see not only Sapporo well, but to the opposite direction you can see as far as 風不死岳 and 樽前山 near 支笏湖. I didn’t know they are visible from within the Sapporo city limits. 😊👍
