Parking in Carcano, the first section is easy dirt and a beautiful view of Lake Como. Once on asphalt, luckily you continue on the cycle path and only the last section is on the main road to Santa Maria where the climb begins.
The climb is on asphalt for 10km, not very busy, then the dirt begins with
