It’s a very steep ride leaving from Trieste. It’s doable without load/paneers. But if you are touring, keep in mind you will have to get of the bike and push it most of the time. Also, all the Italian part is on roads with moderate traffic and only two lanes, not very nice to ride. And intermittent sidewalk to push the bike.
Like
