Cycling across the county I hooked up with the South County Trailway in Yonkers, followed it south through Van Cortlandt Park where i traveled down Broadway, the longest street in NYC, to its Southern terminus at Bowling Green. Many of New York Citys landmarks can be seen on or very close to Broadway.

A short portion of Old Croton Aqueduct Trail beginning at Scarborough Station with a slight detour into Rockwood Hall ( built 1849-demolished 1941-42 ) to check out the grounds of the once sprawling 1000 acre estate of William Rockefeller. In its current state only 88 acres remain along with the foundation walls, carriage paths and many of the originally planted specimen trees

Short jaunt from Grand Central Terminal down the west side, around The Battery and up the east side ending up back at the Terminal while seeing interesting things along the way

The Bronx River Pathway follows the Bronx River from Bronxville to the Kensico Dam in Valhalla. The path wends its way over footbridges, through pine stands, under low parkway underpasses and ends at the base of Kensico dam. The path consists of every type of surface; asphalt, dirt, sand, crushed gravel and loose stone. At just over 11 miles in one direction its an extremely enjoyable out and back.

@Keith I like that path. I went to the dam once. The ride was very enjoyable. Have you gone up the Empire State Trail?
