Pretty easy hike , not sure why some people claim it is expert . Took us 4 hours with lunch and taking a million pictures . Definitely do it clockwise as the steepest part is at the very beginning - going down steep loose gravel is not fun . Totally doable without sticks in dry weather , however a few small sections you would for sure benefit from sticks if slippery/windy . Trail contains some insane views , an absolute highlight in Iceland
