The Medieval Tower of Vachery was better viewed from the second diversion.
The return route from Allein was a gravel track with some steep inclines - if you don't get your gearing right you may end up pushing your bike like I did on occasion...

Do not try the lakeside path from Merlin restaurant unless you are skilled navigating tree roots, boulders, gullies and steeply undulating narrow terrain - we turned back and went uphill on track instead
