After last week's warm weather which which was more like summer than anything we were suddenly hit with a strong and cold northwesterly and really thought that autumn had arrived with a crash. First day in long sleeves.
Yesterday was 25 deg. and very sunny, today was almost 10 deg. cooler and I had to race the rain in the final mile.
Still, a lovely ride with nature whispering of autumn from every hedgerow. Fighting a stif breeze on the out leg and magical transformation to a tailwind once

So, late September and here we are, out in 25 degrees heat.
Warm enough to be sweating in just a jersey and shorts ! Not sure whether this qualifies as an Indian Summer ? Anyway, a beautiful afternoon ride under blue skies and even a Spitfire passing by. I haven't been doing enough on the bike lately

Nice to see the first damsons I've come across this year. Sign of the relentless turning of the seasons. Not even September and are we really already plotting to make jam ? We're still using 2018's !
Rarely stay on the Island to ride, but this was well worth it. Always a bit wild at the back of Sheppey

I do boldly declare that there be not an hundred straight yards of hedgerow in all of merrie England upon this season, but it bare within it blackberries of the biggest, blackest and sweetest sort that ere the Good Lord did cause to grow up.

I found myself in in conversation with four different people during my visit to Faversham. A very amenable lot, Favershamites ! And only one of them knew me beforehand. In each case the bike was at least the starting point for the chat.

Very warm, thankfully with a good south westerly to soften the heat. Left the car in Tyler Hill and rode through to Windy Corner for our first coffee shop visit in 5 months ! Very nice.
Whitstable seethed. Families and children strongly in evidence.

You'd have thought that the first blackberries would be mean and small, without favour but no - those that are ready are big and luscious ! And here we are, still in July. Dig the jam jars out of the back of the garage !
By the end of the ride I had eaten a large, ripe plum and given a few damsons

A gentle perambulation along assorted seawalls to picnic east of Herne Bay. Sunny start but steadily acquired a light overcast. Warm and muggy, but not oppressive.
Plenty of people out on the beach and using the newly unlocked coffee and ice cream outlets. Pubs getting their share too. All outside.

Trying out my new route to work at at what will in 2022 be the Medway Make Ready Centre. A bit tight for time, so didn't stop to look around, but came back the fast way down the A2, with the wind behind me. Lovely rainbow on the way and a short stretch of flooded road as well.
It averages out at an hour and a half each way.
