Waited for the cable car which ran from 09:00 to get a head start up to Taubenstein, €12 one way.
Scrambled up to the peak of Taubenstein using the steel ropes to help. Best to keep left at the top of the rope. Then across to Raukopf and Jaegerkamp. Wonderful views above the clouds which had accompanied

Early start in the dark through the deserted streets. Path above the village was blocked with a sign warning of €500 fines for going further up the volcano. Black sandy path up to L'Osservatorio which unfortunately is now the end of the road. Great to linger and watch the small eruptions as the sun came

Pleasant hike past beautiful waterfalls, then a long strenuous climb up to Jaegerkamp, but the views of surrounding peaks were worth it. A pause for Kaiserschmarrn at the Schönfeldhütte helped. Shady forest walk alongside the Lainbach stream. Beautiful birdsong in the forest. Then impressive meadows with views over Kochelsee and Herzogstand accompanied by the sound of cow bells. Car park at Franz Marc Museum was very expensive (€7 + €2 Tax). Seems like there's plenty of free on-Sreet parking

A chilly walk up to Eckbauer although sometimes the sun gave some warmth. Unfortunately the Gasthof is being rebuilt so had to rely on my own refreshments. Fantastic views from the top and very peaceful (probably because the cable car is closed at the moment)
