Bike orienteering the “Garden of Turiec”: A day of field paths, former tank road and small river current
What a day in the saddle! We traded tarmac for field paths, former tank road, bike wading through small river current, and did a balancing act across a makeshift wooden plank 🌊 🪵 🚴♂️. The tank road offered amazing view of the Great Fatra mountains, but wading the river current definitely stole the show today! The ride threw us one last curveball - a fall near the end of the tour - but we got back up, kept pedalling, and finished the loop! 🚴♂️ There’s nothing like the Turiec wilderness to keep you on your toes. 👊🔥

Martinske hole (1250 m.a.s.l.)
From Stráne, it was a steep climb over asphalt, dirt, roots, and rocks all the way to the Martinské hole cabin. The weather was on my side—it was very sunny. Starting from an altitude of 900 meters, snow began to appear, and the last kilometer was an icy road. The descent led toward Vrútky, through Kolónia Hviezda, ending in Ľadoveň (a part of the city). During the descent, the decline was just as steep. Although it was mostly an asphalt road, the surface is unmaintained, with many potholes, gravel, and uneven patches - just the way I like it. Grit of the trip perfectly!

Jasenská valley (549 m.a.s.l) - Lysec (1381 m.a.s.l.) loop
We ascended Lysec Peak from the Jasenská Valley, surrounded by deciduous trees. En route, the trail became progressively steeper all the way to the peak. It took us nearly three hours to reach the summit. At the top, we were rewarded with plenty of sunshine, snow, and stunning views of the Veľká Fatra, the Low Tatras, the Chočské vrchy Mountains, and the Turiec Basin. On the descent, as we followed the ridge, we were surrounded by meadows filled with snowdrops.

Nižná - Oravice loop
Great early-season ride with stunning Tatras views This 51 km moderate loop with approximately 450 m of elevation gain was a good choice for a solid workout. The route combines smooth paved roads with gravel sections, offering variety and a bit of adventure. The scenic views of the Western Tatras are a real highlight. Today’s sunny weather, zero wind, and clear sky made the ride feel smooth and enjoyable throughout. Well-balanced trail featuring beautiful scenery, manageable climbs, and diverse surfaces — definitely worth riding.
