Starting with the climb to the impressive Befreiungshalle, the trail offers beautiful panoramic views over Kelheim and the Danube before continuing through peaceful Bavarian forests along the high route. One of the most scenic ridge hikes in the Bavarian Alps. The panoramic views over Walchensee and Kochelsee are simply spectacular from start to finish.

The highlight is undoubtedly the Gratweg (ridge way) between Herzogstand and Heimgarten: an exposed ridge that requires sure-footedness, good hiking boots

Today I combined stages 53 and 54 of the Via Romea Germanica, covering 21.2 km in 4h33m from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Mittenwald via Klais.

This hike also marked the end of the German section of the pilgrimage route. From the next stage onward, the Via Romea Germanica crosses into Austria towards Seefeld in Tirol.

A beautiful stage through the Bavarian Alps, starting in the picturesque village of Oberammergau and following quiet paths along the Ammer River towards Ettal. The highlight was undoubtedly the impressive Ettal Abbey, although I couldn't visit the interior because a church service was in progress.

23.1 km today through the beautiful Mangfall Valley.

A very mixed hike: almost fully immersed in nature, with forests, streams, birds and some really nice river views — but also quite demanding after the recent rain.

The first section from Weyarn was especially technical, muddy and overgrown. Wet vegetation

A very rewarding point-to-point hike connecting two of the most beautiful lakes around Munich: Ammersee and Starnberger See.

The first ~4 km from Herrsching am Ammersee up to Andechs Monastery are quite straightforward. We took the “Kiental” variant (shared with bikes): more direct and easier, but also

I intentionally followed the official Komoot route instead of my usual variants to test it — honestly, not the best choice.

The first ~6 km are basically a continuous uphill through the forest. It’s quite monotonous and physically demanding, with very limited variation. Good if you’re looking for a workout

Pleasant and not too demanding hike from Seefeld to Herrsching am Ammersee — around 19 km with ~300 m of elevation gain.

The route starts with a short visit to Seefeld, well worth it for its charming atmosphere and the beautiful castle. From there, the trail quickly immerses you in nature.

A clear highlight
