Winter bothy overnighter ❄️ The plan sounded simple: cycle to the Falls of Tarf, then push on to Allt Scheicheachan Bothy before dark. The scenery, however, had other ideas..every few minutes I stopped to stare, take photos, and remind myself to keep moving 😅 About 1km before the falls the track turned into an ice rink. I was already crawling along, very aware that another head-banging fall would not make a great story… so with a heavy heart (900m from the falls!!!) I bailed and turned towards the bothy instead. Then the adventure properly began: steep climbs, snow up to my knees, burns to cross in the dark, and a lot of 'what am I actually doing?' moments, but also lots of fun. Rolled into the bothy after 7pm to the soundtrack of Scotland vs England rugby and four very friendly lads. Shared food, laughs, and then retired to my luxurious 'attic suite' 😂 Four pairs of socks = success… until I woke up roasting and had to de-layer mid-night. Solid sleep anyway, despite a very enthusiastic snorer downstairs 🥃😉 Overnight snow transformed everything into a proper winter wonderland. Opened the door to pure magic. Quick pack-up, goodbyes, and off for a 10km wander back to Blair Atholl. Not much cycling happened, one gentle crash, and bonus wildlife spotting: mountain hare, deer, and one very large mystery bird. Finished with a 2.5-hour recovery session at Jesse’s Café, Pitlochry ☕🙌🏻 Would definitely recommend 🤓👌🏻

Arrived at Strathcarron 11am. Checked the Met forecast: 30mph winds, rain, very poor visibility. Sensible people would have gone for a coffee. Me being me, I decided to just go and see how it feels.. Spoiler: it felt exactly as the forecast! 😂 The Bealach na Bá itself? Pretty tough, but amazing! The famous 20% harpins at the top were surprisingly manageable.. All in a oner, obviously 😎 Only two dodgy drivers the whole way, which I’ll count as a win. Would I do it again? Probably not… unless closed to traffic! Then came the real fun, relentless rain and headwinds. Proper sideways stuff, the kind where raindrops hit your face like tiny needles. Beautiful scenery, but very difficult to enjoy in these circumstances! Nearly reached breaking point, but stubbornness and a pre-booked campsite kept me going. Now warm, dry, and fed, listening to the rain hammer down on my tent and questioning my life choices. Wondering what will tomorrow bring 😅

Anything but smooth 😂 Definitely more suited to MTB than gravel... Not one for the repeat list, but fun nevertheless.

What a beautiful little hammock out in the Pentland Hills! I headed out solo after work to catch the summer solstice, and it was magical ✨️
First time sleeping in a hammock - 10/10, would totally recommend! It was a bit windy during the night, but it actually rocked me to sleep. And lying there, looking
