Ski Bummed and Lived in Crested Butte, CO in the late 70s and early 80s, where I started riding an old 30 lb Schwinn Varsity road bike that I salvaged from a friends garage. In the Late seventies, "Bike" Guys I knew in Crested Butte, were building "Geared" old balloon tire bikes for off road using road bike components. At that time I thought it was a great Idea, but didn't get into it for myself till they came out with Production Mtn Bikes. Got my first Mtn Bike in 1987 (...still have that bike). So I started Riding Mtn Bikes in 1987 and did that 100% of the time. Really got back into Road at the tailend of 2001 when I was about to turn fifty and now split my ride time between the two. I've never raced on my Road Bike, have done some Mtn Bike races since 1999 and have done a couple of 24 Hour Team Races. I'm usually the oldest, but not always the slowest on the Team..... For the last almost 7 years, since my retirement, I've been helping coach the Local Middle/High School Mtn Bike Team. Which has been a Hoot. The kids who ride Mtn Bikes up here in Tehachapi, are pretty amazing and fun to work with. Their parents are the best too. Go Warriors/Knights!!!! I worked professionally as a Graphic Designer/Cartoonist for 35+ years and now work at home. Mostly Cycling related, designing jerseys/logos for Teams/Clubs, Banner and ads for cycling events..... A side the occasional cracked ribs and broken/separated clavicle, Cycling has been very very good to me.
