The Neolithic henge monument situated around the village of Avebury contains three stone circles, dating to around 2600 BC.
In contrast to Stonehenge, it is possible to go close and actually touch the stones. The fields can be muddy, so good footwear comes in handy if you want to go right up to the stones.

This has been a world heritage site for a few years now, and deservedly so. Thousands of years of history crammed into a tiny Wiltshire village. Silbury Hill, West Kennet Longbarrow and the Stone Circles and passageways surrounding Avebury itself. Do not miss this out of your trip.
