Today a viewing point and landmark
Hardly anyone in the city knows the original function of the Victory Column; most people think of the big parties at the Love Parade. It is also known as a viewing point.
The viewing platform is located directly under the Golden Angel. Anyone with a bit of stamina who climbs the 285 steps will be rewarded with a great view of the Grosser Tiergarten, the nearby Bellevue Palace and other parts of Berlin. The Victory Column has long been one of Berlin's landmarks, alongside the TV tower and the Brandenburg Gate.

Tiergarten is a district in the Mitte district of Berlin. It was created during the administrative reform in 2001 by dividing the former Tiergarten district, which also included the Hansaviertel and Moabit. In today's language, Tiergarten often refers to the Tiergarten district, the former Tiergarten district or the Grosser Tiergarten city park. The part of the current district lying south of the Grosser Tiergarten is also called Tiergarten Süd to distinguish it from the former Tiergarten district.
